Tombstone Tuesday - Amos C Kimble - May 12, 2015

Amos C Kimble died 152 years ago today in the while serving in the Civil War.  He died from disease rather than in conflict.  In the Union encampments around Chattanooga, the living conditions were deplorable and many soldiers fell ill and died. Amos C Kimble was one of those soldiers.

 He was buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Tennessee.

He was born in in Hocking County Ohio to Jacob and Harriet (Renyolds ) Kimble in 1838.

In 1840, his Mother died and by 1843 so had his father.  It was at this time that the younger Kimble children were scattered to other families to raise.   In the 1850 Federal Census, Amos is found living with Hannah Hollan in Bern, Fairfield County, Ohio. She is 69 years old and born in 1781. She could be an Aunt.  In the 1860 federal Census, Amos is with his Brother Jonathon and his family in Pickaway, Pickaway County, Ohio.

Amos married Martha Myers 9/21/1860 in Pickaway, Ohio. They had one child, Mary Leona Leota Kimble. He enlisted in the 40th Regiment of the Indiana Infantry as a Private in Dec 23, 1863 in Lafayette, Indiana. Amos Kimble is recognized on the Tippecanoe County War Monument located in Lafayette, Indiana.
